My friend Seba, aka Dj Seeb, who lives in Osaka and is a DJ and teacher of Italian for the Japanese (and other 50 thousand things that only he knows and can do!), Spoke about my project Ti Accompagno Traveling (if you don't know what it is, here's the link to the page) to a few people (how much I love you!).
And here one of his students, Akira Hidaka, becomes interested in the project!
Akira works in Toyota, has a Toyota, is Japanese, and speaks Japanese ... basically, the stereotype of the Japanese guy; Instead, and this reinforces the idea that you should never take those in front of you for granted, Akira is in love with Italy, is learning Italian and has a wonderful project: to open an import of Italian craft beer in Japan!
Oh yes, because it is normal for us to think that a drink as common as beer, additionally handcrafted, is accessible all over the world! Instead, our very particular beer does not arrive in the land of the Rising Sun.
So Akira has seen fit to take advantage of this opportunity, which combined with his passion for the Bel Paese and for our drink, leads him to make yet another tour in Italy.
He leaves from Sicily, passes through Umbria, visits Naples and Rome, goes up to Milan and arrives in Turin. All to visit the cities, but above all to take the tour of the breweries of those cities.
The week before leaving, we met through Seba, via video call, and we wrote each other the details of the trip; the day and time he will arrive, where he would like to go, what to visit and where to eat.
Obviously, I play at home because I am from Turin and therefore I know the territory, the clubs, the places well.
I suggest him a tour in the Langhe, since he also loves wine, but the expected weather is not the best. He tells me that the milestones will have to be Superga and the Gilac Brewery. On the basis of his indications, we write down a program that he enthusiastically accepts; here is the plan of what we did during the day together:
At 13 we met at the station because Akira was arriving from Milan; from there with my car we went to Rivoli to eat at the Tiffany Caffe, a restaurant where a lady cooks dishes in the old way. We eat and drink well, and since we finish earlier than expected, we go to Castello di Rivoli to see Turin and the province from above, and also because having to go to Superga, it was interesting to see Corso Francia, the longest straight course. of Europe (almost 12 km) which draws a straight line between the two monuments!
Then we finally arrive at the Gilac Brewery, where Giuseppe Piovano, the owner, welcomes us warmly (I had contacted him in advance to explain who Akira was, and also my role as a companion 😁😁)
We taste a lot of fantastic beers (some I had already enjoyed in several pubs in the area), and he tells us where and how the Gilac project was born; Akira inquires about some details and makes contacts for his future project, I agree with Giuseppe to hear from us to try to organize some event together with my other Life Is Experience project.
From here we leave for the Basilica of Superga, which we visit first inside, then on the upper balcony, and finally on the perimeter with a passage to the site dedicated to the Grande Torino, which we honor as both football lovers, even if Inter fans (Akira ) and Juventus (me) ... I'm not telling you the mutual teasing, even after Milan's Scudetto victory!
Once we get off Superga, we go to Valentino to see the Borgo and while we're at it, the Eurovision Village which in those days is right in the park of the same name.
From there, a tour in the center, via Roma, Piazza Castello, and we finish the evening with a wonderful dinner at Signor Vino, a nice restaurant where you can taste many wines (and buy over 1500 bottles from the cellar) and eat well.
Between one visit and another, between one meal and another, I was able to savor the true spirit of the Ti Accompagno In Viaggio project, which is based on sharing the journey, ideas, dreams and projects: getting to know Akira and entering in tune with him on this day is the real engine that pushes me to carry on this dream.
